Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

The coconut tree leaves can be used to make carry covers. They are very strong and can be used instead of plastic. The coconut shell can be modified to be used as cup. It will never get damaged.

Sir. Banning use of plastic is a good move. We can substitute the same by promoting use of juteand other locally available forest and agricultural produce to substitue plastic. Whereby our ecology can be preserved and empowerthe rural mass. This would be win win situation for the nation and the rural agregrain mass.

The convenience and utility of value of plastic will not allow it to die. We can as well go in for biodegradable plastic leaving aside the pertochemical product.

Food items come in plastic bags and are consumed in huge quantity. Firstly it should be take care of by uaing paper bags or any other alternate that can be reused.jute bags/ paper bags are expensive as compared to ploybags. With some process improvement and latest technology this can be reduced.

Govt. Of India may first instruct all its post offices not to accept platic envelopes/platic containers for despatch /delivery from 06-06-2016 which is International Environment Day. All paper based documents other than non-damagable medical items may be banned for delivery from that date. Plastic cups, paper plates, glasses must be banned in usage for marriage ceremonies / other public gatherings where food is served. Huge penalty should be levied by the food inspectors upon frequent raids.

Just ban all lightweight plastics. Period. In Ooty, TN, ban on plastic bags showed good results. Government should formulate a scheme for all existing small/medium scale industries to upgrade their facility to manufacture industrial grade containers and impose a thorough ban on lightweight plastics.
