Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Due importance to be given for knitted re-usable bags to be available. At present any Grocery store keeps only plastic/paper bags.I request the Grocery stores owners to make it a CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility)activity and keep stock of knitted re-usable bags at affordable price. There are citizens with environmental concern who feel shy to carry a polythene bag but are at times forced. Appreciate if the Govt agencies to work in this direction.

Ban plastics which do not qualify the gauge requirement as set by Govt. Anyone using below recommended gauge should be fined Rs 500.00 in first instance, Rs 10000.00 in next stance and his shop should be sealed in third instance. Govt should also see who all are making such below standard poly bags and should announce 3 years jail for them. Further Govt should contact all road builders to mix this waste poly in coal tar though it has pollution issues but still better than dumping in open.

sure, you need to ban plastic completely. It is better to do on step by step manner. 1. Increase tax on plastic industry and raw material 2. made restrictions to the public usage. 3. ban to use plastic on some of items like soap package, small shampoo, chocolate, etc. because these small plastic are not biodegradable and not interested to recycling. 4.Support for the research and large scale production of biodegradable type of plastic.Because already scientist discovered biodegradable plastic
