A large number of tribal people and other forest dwellers derive their source of livelihood from the collection and marketing of Minor Forest Produce (MFP) which provides them essential food, nutritional, medicinal needs and cash income also. As the business of MFP is different from the traditional ones, it denies due benefits. While government supported Corporations and Federations trade in some MFPs, a large number of these are traded freely in the market which is also not very helpful to the gatherers as MFP production is highly dispersed spatially and because of the poor accessibility of these areas, a competitive market does not exist. As a strategic interventions to ensure fair returns for the MFPs to the gatherers/collectors, the Government has come up with a new scheme of Mechanism for Marketing of Minor Forest Produce (MFP) through Minimum Support Price (MSP) and Development of Value Chain for MFP.

Through the MyGov Platform, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, seeks suggestions/information from all section of the society regarding innovative ideas for value addition to the MFPs, processing and marketing of MFPs, traditional skill and skill development, etc.

The task of giving value addition through village industrialization is already assigned to the khadi and village industries commission and various state khadi and village industry boards. As I am a retired dy ceo(village industry), I know that only a limited or practically no work is being done in this regard. It is time that a meeting with kvic is held and ways and means found to strengthen this aspect of our economy. In case my humble suggestions are sought, I shall give the same separately.

Basically this needs channel sales. 1) monitor the production 2) form a team who has knowledge of each product. 3) these members go to bigger cities to make the deal 4) suppose they deal with wholesalers and further wholesellers provide to retailers, then there should be basic price of product, plus commission for sales team, plus commision for wholesalers and retailers. 5) quality and purity is must. 6) form committees for quality check. 7)make this things grand #MFP #MYGov
