“The earth, water and the air are not a gift to us from our parents but a loan from our children.” ---Anonymous

Energy resources have transformed human lives and lifestyles. Energy resources have allowed for human achievement and ambition to move from the potter’s wheel, farmer’s plough and the weaver’s loom to space missions and robots among others. However, the modern world looms in the shadow of a severe energy crisis: the result of unsustainable and inefficient use of energy resources.

Unsustainable and inefficient energy consumption threatens the very basis of life as we have come to know it. In the face of the increasing scarcity of energy resources it is imperative that we launch a committed, concerted and cumulative effort towards holistic energy use habits and sustainable consumption patterns.

Energy conservation most importantly means that conservation becomes an all pervasive habit, an everyday philosophy and practice that aims to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, adoption of energy efficient lifestyles and fostering innovations in green and clean energy technologies.

D&NHPDCL invites suggestions, guidance, comments from citizens, self-help groups, environmental organisations towards developing Energy Conservation as a habit towards an energy secure future.

shocking info./fact on diesel emission. which causes lung and other cancers.
1) Emits 4 times more nitrogen dioxide pollution
2) 22 times more tiny particles which penetrate the lungs, brain and heart.

if you are driving less than 2500Kms/month it is not making sense to buy a diesel car. a detailed analysis is available in this thread.

Street lights are on long after sun rise. Just by delaying switching on the street lights by one hour and advancing switching off the street lights by one hour, a lot of power can be saved which can be put to productive use.

Vijay shared good list of 'energy saving' habits. wish to add one more here. i.e use of Shower for bathing. use of showers will consume 1/4 of that of using bucket.

Small changes by citizens will go long way.

Reduce the use of paper as much as possible - by having a single identity document for every individual giving all necessary details about the person. We come across many instances about submitting copies of PAN card / photo ID proof/Address ID proof and so on as part of KYC.Why not incorportate all details in one card so that we quote that number in application forms pertaining to opening a bank account, or making an investment etc

we can use solar energy at our home. Our country is now getting much hotter. It is due to global warming. we can grow trees and plants at home. I hear this line most of the people but only few of them plants. its a request from all readers, if you have car then please plant at least 10 trees per year. It is not expensive to plant a tree. But it will give more profit then your car. So please plant trees. Am also doing this.

If we just look back & reflect upon the lifestyle followed by our ancestors, we would find a lot of ideas:
15. Discuss these thoughts (& any other such thoughts that you may come across) with all your family members & close friends. Seek their feedback & if they are convinced, request them to follow it.Also, request them to share these thoughts with their family members & close friends.
Together we can make our dear Earth a better place!Let us all try to contribute our small effort everyday!

If we just look back & reflect upon the lifestyle followed by our ancestors, we would find a lot of ideas:
11. When going out, carry a foldable cloth bag for making any random purchases(helps avoid plastic covers usage)
12. Do half a flush when a full flush is not required(saves a lot of water if followed by everyone)
13. Switch-off TV Main switch when not in use(just switching off through remote would mean some power is still drawn)
14. Switch off lights/fans when going out of room

If we just look back and reflect upon the lifestyle followed by our ancestors, we would find a lot of ideas:
5. Plan our day so that we dont use personal transport repeatedly in a day
6. Use wet cloth for cleaning vehicle
7. Keep windows & doors open in summer & use fans. Avoid using AC
8. Use left over kitchen water for watering plants
9. Collect Rain-water in buckets/mugs. Even half bucket of water collected is worth the effort
10. Use Khadi clothes to avoid sweating
