Ecological life support— biodiversity provides functioning ecosystems that supply oxygen, clean air and water, pollination of plants, pest control, wastewater treatment and many ecosystem services. Recreation—many recreational pursuits rely on our unique biodiversity , such as birdwatching, hiking, camping and fishing.

Example of ecosystem with high biodiversity is tropical rain forest as seen in Amazon basin of south America. Such forests are also thriving in parts of central Africa and also in islands of Indonesia. In marine environment, coral reefs are example of high biodiversity aquatic ecosystems.

Humans affect biodiversity by their population numbers, use of land, and their lifestyles, causing damage to habitats for species. ... Through proper education, and by demanding that governments make decisions to preserve biodiversity, the human population will be able to sustain life on earth longer.

Total Timeline: 5-10 years? Tidal waters cause changes in plant communities, because most plants are not adapted to salt, particularly many of the invasive and weedy non-native species that have changed California's landscapes so dramatically.

Wetlands exist in many kinds of climates, on every continent except Antarctica. They vary in size from isolated prairie potholes to huge salt marshes. They are found along coasts and inland. Some wetlands are flooded woodlands, full of trees.
