Shortlisted as one of the smart cities, Bhubaneswar today is a model of livability evident by the city’s stable growth rate in the recent decades. On the other hand, the city faces challenges that are negative consequences of urbanization faced by many cities. We now suffer from a growing threat to losing our open spaces to urban sprawl, increasing private vehicle ownership, and recently being ranked 25th among the 28 state capitals under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The challenge now before us - in shaping the Bhubaneswar for the next generation - is to strategically leverage our strengths as we grow, while turning around the negatives. With your participation, the Bhubaneswar Smart City Proposal will provide solutions to ensure a sustainable, inclusive and resilient future for all its citizens. In order to succeed in this ambitious mission. WE need YOU!

We invite the residents of Bhubaneswar to share their views and thoughts on the most pressing challenges that the citizens face to turn Bhubaneswar into a Smart City?

A city is not smart until it manages its waste well. Waste management process should be decentralised and locality based, quick and real time. It is surprising to note that 70% of waste is organic in nature & can be reprocessed before it becomes waste or, thereafter, can be recycled in a sustainable manner. We have invented a Green Waste Reprocessor machine which re‐process all green reject and converts it into valuable by‐products. More details can be found on www.cleanindiatech.com #SmartCity

Master Canteen Square being the core of the selected District, and equipped with all facilities like wifi etc., should be planned for 10 times the present floating population.

BDA has prepared a redevelopment plan for Master Canteen Square with Ashoka Market, Nehru Park and JP Park over a 12-acre area. This should be intertwined with the station building with tall structure (like 25 stories) and 2-3 storied underground parking, greenery on the vehicle-free ground level and the entire structure fitted with escalators and travelators. Monorail/Metro connectivity from the Station/City Center to airport, Heritage Zone, Bus terminus, Southcity and Infocity should be there.

Bhubaneswar has a fair amount of space for pedestrians...but the challenge is almost all these spaces meant for walking are either being used for parking vehicles or extending the shop lines....
