National Highway Authority of India currently is planning to build a citizen facing interface which can cater to all highway related needs of NH commuters. NHAI already has an Android mobile application called Sukhaad Yatra (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rsawh.nhia&hl=en_IN&gl=US) which needs to be upgraded and advanced further.

Citizens are invited to share their ideas on how the Sukhad Yatra app can be improved with additional features/ integrations to better service the needs of citizens. The end outcome is to improve the experience of NH commuters and build a robust medium of 2-way communication.

The tool will not be limited to but can cover the following areas:
● Informing users of construction and maintenance activities
● Allowing users to register complaints pertaining to the condition of the highway or highway activities such as toll (for eg. If wait times for a toll gate are too long or if FasTag is not working at a gate)
● Allow users to rate highways on various characteristics of the highway around their experience as a rider (on both negative and positive characteristics of experience, for example whether the NH offers a scenic route or view)
● Allow user to access emergency and first response services on the highway
● Allow users to access information on wayside amenities, petrol pumps, EV stations etc. Information about location of facilities along the route can be searched on Google Maps but this is hard to access for non smartphone users.
● Allow users to report traffic congestion, accidents, debris, toll-relates issues, request EV charging points etc to local command centres (Eg. Waze)
● The interface should be able to cater to user-needs of commuters with and without smartphones
● The interface should have a strong focus on UX, intuitive and centred around the day-to-day needs and experience of highway users.

The interface can also operate as a platform through which multiple existing private and public applications can link to such as NH’s toll free number, toll management system etc or travel related apps (MapMyIndia, Google Maps etc) which already have a high user-base. The platform should leverage strengths of existing IT applications and not reinvent where necessary.

The design should cater to all kinds of NH users such as:
● Commercial (trucking etc) who may or may not have a smartphone and a user design which caters to their needs
● Personal long-distance commuter which may not be as frequent but may have access to smartphones
● Local residents who live around the highways and use it more frequently than private long distance commuters

Submissions to this can be in the form of app mock-ups/ prototypes, presentations, concept notes on platform and other interfaces, list of desired features by commuters etc.

Tha last date of submission of ideas is 15th June 2022.

Building world class road is one thing maintenance is another so that whenever tenders are floated a clause of mandatory maintenance of roads upto 15 years must be added and any deviation will be severely punishable act

All High tension Electric wires and Cable TV wires criss crossing National Highway Roads should be completely removed. Electricity Board should lay underground cables safely instead of having over head wires. NHAI should strictly prohibit the flex banners or distrubing colour lights in the buildings which diverts the drivers attention. This should be enforced very strictly. Banning the political parties to place their party flags through the divider is a must A heavy penalty has to be put to political parties if they misuse the NHAI for their use. A notification on all national dailies and magazines informing all the political parties to avoid keeping their party flags or banners in the dividers should be done immediately. I hope that NHAI will take suitable action on this. All vehicles carrying vegetables and other commodities should cover them properly and should not carry more weight. This will prevent falling of items from the vehicle and cause problem to other vehicles.

NHAI can release some Documentaries on Road safety and create an awareness on accidents happening at National Highways. There are many road accidents happening daily due to over speeding and drunken driving. This will create an awareness among the road users. At all Petrol Bunks a pamplet containing important Help Line numbers, Important advice on Safe Driving in various languages can be distributed. NHAI should ensure smooth and neat roads without any potholes and humps. Additional light reflectors on sharp curves and dark areas should be kept to alert the drivers. Unauthorised speed breakers put on roads near the villages has to be removed or painted with bright white paint to alert the drivers. Solar powered lights has to be installed at accident prone areas and very dark areas for safe driving. At every 30 kilometres pure drinking water kiosks for drivers should be there. So that they can fill water and drink it during their long journey. This will reduce plastic pollution.

NHAI cannot run from his responsibilities by sitting in remote offices ie their offices must be established in the highways which they are making as well as on Tolls and travelers must be provided option to pay fixed tolls for whole state journey for a day, for week, or for a month so that they need not to pay tolls again and again that too on subsidized basis both way saving for govt manpower can be reduced or travelers saving in tolls one another thing at NHAI offices located on these highways there must be a grievances officer whom complaint can be launched for poor roads or services on Highways

Govt should issue licenses on subsidized tender basis for highways restaurants or dhabas so that low cost food items can be made available to travelers with safety and all the vehicles specially roadways bus are directed to stay only in the authorized restaurants or dhabas and in these places proper lighting system, rooms, with toilets , medical aids, along with police helps are provided and money generated from these tenders can be used for maintenance and extension of roads
